The night fisher’s primer

The night fisher’s primer

Choose a catch that gives the night trip a purpose, check its habitat and leave space for it before leaving port.

Field guide

Make Black Grouper the reason for a night trip in The Marrows. It is a Shallow-water fish caught by rod or trawl at night, and its four-slot footprint asks for a clear patch of hold.

Keep Grey Eel in mind as a second catch: it shares that water and habitat but is active both day and night. The two fish offer a useful distinction: one asks you to change your departure window; the other does not.

Read Panic before committing to the dark. Its causes distinguish darkness from good lighting and rest; this is a trip to see a different catch, not a challenge to stay out for as long as possible.
